With pressing environmental issues, pollution and global warming, it is no wonder why the talk about green living has became inevitable. People are starting to realize the importance of green practices and changing their way of consumerism and care for the Planet.
In order to reduce the negative impact of human activity on the environment, one must first make an individual effort, so we can make the world a better place for generations to come. You may contribute to a greener tomorrow in a variety of ways:
1. Recycle whenever possible.
It’s probably one of the easiest steps you can take—especially when more and more of the products you already buy might be in recyclable packaging. Glass, aluminum, paper, and most plastics are all recyclable.
2. Buy products that give something back.
These days, many companies have charitable efforts or donate portions of their proceeds to a variety of causes. There are literally thousands of do-gooders from which you can choose.
3. Before purchasing a product, consider where and how it was made.
And what you’ll do with the item once you’re done with it. If the product’s life cycle entails a lot of waste, consider an alternative.
4. Purchase products made without the use of hazardous substances.
Everyday chemicals, including organophosphates, flame retardants and phthalates, can be found in food, plastics, furniture, food wrap, cookware, cans, carpets, shower curtains, electronics and even shampoo. Always check for labels and choose products that are not only safe for you, but also for the environment.
5. Be selective about the companies you support.
Look for companies that are working to reduce waste, use sustainable materials, and adopt closed-loop thinking. And advocate that those who aren’t doing so commit to doing their part.
